Borgata & Bwin.Party NJ Online Casino Overview
Borgata Online Gambling in New Jersey
For many gamblers who travel to Atlantic City, the Borgata is the first and last word in New Jersey live casino gambling. And the company is hoping that reputation for an engaging wagering experience will transition seamlessly into the online gambling arena.
Borgata’s approach to online gambling
The Borgata has taken a very aggressive approach to the newly-minted regulated iGaming market in New Jersey. The company has been clear about its intentions from the start, announcing a partnership with international online gambling giant bwin.party back in Spring of 2013.
That partnership was something of a foregone conclusion given that the two co-owners of the Borgata – MGM and Boyd Gaming – are in a joint venture with bwin.party to offer online gambling in the regulated U.S. market.
With that alliance in place, the Borgata moved full steam ahead to ensure an early place in the New Jersey online gambling market, a strategy that paid off when the casino was granted the first online gambling permit by New Jersey regulators.
That license doesn’t guarantee that the Borgata online poker room and casino will be the first to open in NJ, but it strongly suggests that Borgata will be among the first wave of regulated online casinos to accept real-money wagers from Internet gamblers in New Jersey.
Both the Borgata online poker room and the online casino games at Borgata’s Internet offering will be powered by bwin.party’s software.
The Borgata live poker room
The website for the Borgata live poker room describes the room as “in a class all its own.” Based on the enthusiastic response the room has received from players since opening in 2006.
The room now plays host to 85 tables dedicated to poker, making it among the largest live poker rooms in the United States by number of seats. Cash games run from low limit to some of the largest games you’ll find at any casino in the country, with NLHE and PLO making up most – but not all – of the roster.
Tournament highlights include:
-
Daily SNG tournaments.
-
Daily MTT tournaments.
-
WPT Championship.
-
Borgata Fall Open.
Standard promotions at the Borgata Poker room include comp dollars for players and a Bad Beat Jackpot. It will be interesting to see how tightly integrated this promotional structure eventually becomes with the Borgata online poker room.
Borgata Casino’s role in the Atlantic City market
The Borgata is an all-too-rare bright spot in what has been a steadily declining market for gambling in Atlantic City. Revenues for the East Coast’s largest gambling destination have been on the decline for the better part of the last decade, but the Borgata has by and larged bucked those trends en route to becoming the state’s largest casino in terms of total revenue.
The Borgata’s approach has been to bring some high-end Vegas luxury to a town more known for slot junkets and low-budget gambling, and that approach has paid handsome dividends. Other casinos have attempted to copy the strategy – Revel, for one, made a run at the Borgata, failing miserably – but the Borgata has remained the destination of choice for gamblers looking for an opulent experience.
How that aesthetic will translate online is anyone’s guess. But maintaining the brand and the image of the Borgata will certainly be key to any hopes the company has of keeping the Borgata online poker room and casino at the same level of dominance enjoyed by its land-based counterpart.
